About the Artist

Anthony Ratcliffe is now a full time printmaker after retiring from a senior lecturer post at Manchester School of Art, he was born in South Yorkshire and has always based his work around an exploration of British landscape.
The images are developed from sketchbook drawings made on site and enriched by further research into historical records of topographical and archaeological features found in the remoter areas of upland and coastline.
Anthony’s artistic interpretation of landscape has always been enhanced by years of involvement with climbing and fell running and he lives and works from a studio overlooking the Dark Peak National Park.
His commissioned prints can be found in many private and corporate collections – Manchester Airport PLC, Parliamentary Art Collection, MMU Special Collections, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the British Council.
Recently the artist has exhibited at the Royal Geographic Society, The Mountain Arts Festival-Rheged Cumbria, Woolwich Print Fair, Neo International Prize Exhibition, New Light, Printfest and Dean Clough.
The artist is a member of and exhibits regularly with Leeds Fine Artists and Manchester Academy of Fine Art.
The woodcut prints are created using two blocks and a reduction printing method, all printing is done by hand and the images are developed from recorded visual material/sketchbook drawings made on site in the upland landscape and coastlines of Britain.
