About the Artist

Daniel H Bell (b.1980) grew up in the West Midlands and currently lives in Edinburgh. He studied Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art and Digital Practices at Norwich School of Art and Design. After completing his BA in the painting department he moved into sculpture and model-making, and from there settled on stop-motion animation. Since his MA he has continued with a tactile approach to film-making, which in turn has developed into a return to painting.

He was the winner of the Contemporary British Painting Prize in 2024, having also been shortlisted in 2022. His work was included in AIR Open 2024 at Rogue Artists' Studios, Manchester, The Horror at Project 78 Gallery, St Leonards-on-Sea (2024), the Society of Scottish Artists Annual Exhibition (2023), the Derwent Art Prize (2022) and Living With the Past at Cupola Contemporary Art, Sheffield (2022).

 

Film screenings include Another Hole in the Head Film Festival, San Francisco, USA (2020), Antimatter Media Art, Victoria, Canada (2017), London Short Film Festival, ICA, London (2009) and Filmfest Dresden: International Short Film Festival, Germany (2008).
